About the Background Remover

Removes the background from photos in your browser: people, pets, products, and anything else that stands out from what is behind it. Add images, click Remove Background, and each one is cut out in turn; preview any of them before and after, then download one or all.

Every Setting

Add Images
Click Add Images, drop files anywhere on the page, choose a folder to add every image inside it, or paste from the clipboard. iPhone HEIC photos work too, and sideways phone photos come out upright.
Remove Background
Starts the cutout for every image in the list that has not been done yet, the one on screen first. Images added afterward wait for the next click. The first time, it downloads the background model.
Background
Transparent leaves the background see-through, ready to place over anything. Color puts the subject on a solid color: pick a swatch, or use the last one to choose any color. Blur keeps the original background but softens it, so the subject stands out; the slider sets how soft.
Crop to Subject
Trims each image to the edges of its subject. Padding adds space around the subject, in pixels, and starts at 0; a side where the subject runs off the photo gets none.
Format
PNG keeps every pixel and the transparency. WebP keeps transparency in a much smaller file. JPEG is smallest for photos but cannot be see-through, so it needs a Color or Blur background.
Quality
The size-versus-fidelity dial for WebP and JPEG, from 10 to 100. It starts at 100.
File Names
A pattern for the new names: {name} is the original name and {n} numbers the batch.
Preview
Side by Side shows the original next to the result, with the crop marked when Crop to Subject is on. Compare lays them over each other with a divider to drag, for checking the edges.
Images
Every image with the size of its result. Click one to preview it, use the arrow to download it on its own, or Download All for a ZIP of every file. While images are waiting, the button at the top starts them.

Common Questions

Why does the first image take longer?
The first time, the tool downloads its background model, about 100 MB. Your browser keeps it, so later visits start in a few seconds.
How long does each image take?
A few seconds where the browser can use the graphics card. Without it, the work runs on the processor and takes longer. Changing the background, crop, or format afterward is quick, because each photo is only cut out once.
Which photos work best?
Ones with a clear subject: a person, a pet, a product, or a car. A busy scene with no obvious subject, or a subject the same color as what is behind it, can come out patchy.
Is the result full size?
Yes. The cutout is made at the original’s full resolution, and the edges are cleaned so a new background shows no fringe of the old one.
