Signing a PDF without handing it over
Most online PDF signers work by uploading your document to a server, applying the change, and giving it back. For a contract, an invoice, or anything with an address on it, that is a strange trade to make for a signature.
The PDF editor renders the document page by page and writes a new file when you are done, so the original is never modified in place.
It covers the jobs that come up in practice: drawing or typing a signature, adding a date and initials, ticking boxes on a form, and reordering or deleting pages before the file goes out.
Common questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read, edited and written entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted and nothing is retained after you close the tab.
Is a drawn signature legally binding?
In most jurisdictions an electronic signature carries the same weight as a wet one for ordinary agreements. Some documents, such as wills and certain property transfers, are excluded. Check the rules where you are.
How do I get a PDF under an email size limit?
Images are almost always the cause. The compress a PDF guide covers which part to reduce first and what quality you give up at each step.
